When it comes to shopping and choosing outfits, I am a pretty self-reliant person. In many ways, I prefer having a laser-like vision and keen decisiveness when faced with what to wear. Everything becomes less stressful, you know? Even when choosing my wedding dress, I knew from the start I wanted an Oscar de la Renta bridal gown. Although I had a few of his impeccable styles in mind, I ultimately tried on only one dress and made my decision (and purchase) on the spot.
Like everyone, I can be indecisive about plenty of things: what to eat for dinner, where to go on vacation, what movie to pick, the list goes on. However, when it comes to fashion, I immediately know when something resonates. So when Trunk Club reached out to see if I was interested in a partnership, I have to be honest – I paused.
If you aren’t already familiar, Trunk Club is a personal styling service where customers can connect with the company’s expert personal stylists in order to have curated “Trunks” shipped directly to their doorstep. Originally founded in Chicago (yay!) in 2009, Trunk Club was acquired by Nordstrom in 2014 and went on to expand their styling services to include womenswear in 2015. Clients can shop online, via the Trunk Club app, or in-person at one of their six national locations.
Now, I originally hesitated about Trunk Club due to the fact that I’m already a decisive shopper. If you drop me off at Nordstrom or pull up their website on my computer, I can put together multiple looks fairly quickly. That’s when it dawned on me. The beauty of Trunk Club’s services is the fact I don’t need to go to a brick-and-mortar location, nor would I need to carve out time for online shopping. Their stylists would do all of it for me! Then, they send what they feel might resonate with my personal style. As someone who works a full-time job, runs a part-time blog, travels over 100,000 airline miles per year, and tries to find spare time for family and friends, I’m all about working smarter not harder. Better yet, I’m already a Nordstrom devotée, so I know the Trunk Club workwear pieces will be amazing.
In short, I save time, I can approve or decline looks in advance, and then try them on at home and keep only what I like. How great is that?!
The only time I needed to spend was creating my online Trunk Club profile. I completed a personal questionnaire and then gave feedback on various outfits via the app. As someone who never endured online dating (thank God), it did feel akin to what that experience might be like. The Trunk Club app presented me with a series of outfits, and I was able swipe left or right on the looks I liked and disliked. It was a really fun element to the process and helped my stylist hone-in on my fashion sense.
From there, my Trunk Club stylist, Kelsey, was able to message me with some additional quick questions. Afterwards, I received a digital preview of the items she selected for me along with details on sizing and pricing. That was the part I appreciated most. For some reason, I had previously thought that they would just send you items and you would be “surprised” when you opened the Trunk. I love how I knew exactly what was to be sent and had the opportunity to offer feedback and edits prior to anything being shipped.
Kelsey put together 14 items and even sent me a message where she used the pieces to create six separate outfits. Mine was a “Workwear Trunk,” so there were plenty of dresses, skirts, and blouses. I had shared with her how I work in a creative and casual environment, so Kelsey was able to be creative with colors and patters – love that! What I appreciated most (aside from all the time I saved not needing to shop) was that she put together hues and textures that I would never have thought of on my own, yet they completely aligned with outfits I already own. The sheer versatility of the pieces made it that much better!
Now that I’m a Trunk Club convert, I’ve already begun coordinating a new Trunk with Kelsey. Stay tuned!
