Today, I’m unveiling my third post in a series in support of voter registration and in celebration of the character in The Politician Astrid Sloan. To me, Astrid is the Carrie Bradshaw of the show. In fact, she’s played by the lovely and talented Lucy Boynton. Most of you know Lucy from her role as young Beatrix Potter in Harry Potter and/or Mary Austin in Bohemian Rhapsody. She’s SO good in that role, and I love she’s gone on to date Rami Malek! Such a cute couple.
The British actress plays Astrid, the precocious, fashionable, and competitive main character in the show. Compared to her counterparts Georgina and Alice, Astrid has a more complex style that’s always evolving. I’m so excited to dive into The Politician Astrid Sloan

The Politician Astrid Sloan Style
While Georgina Hobart is the epitome of California elegance, Astrid airs on the preppy side of style. At the same time, similar to Infinity (another character in the show), Astrid’s style evolves a lot between season one and two.
In the first, she airs on the side of “modern prep.” Her style is like the 2020 version of Cher from Clueless – knee high socks with heels, fancy cars, mini skirts, tweed jackets, short dresses, statement sunglasses and all.
Soon, Astrid’s wardrobe shifts from Clueless to Carrie Bradshaw. She ditches her high school styles for more funky options like leopard print jackets, oversized trench coats, black lace feather dresses, and bold sunglasses.
Who Styled Astrid Sloan?
Similar to Julia Schlaepfer, Lucy Boyton was styled by Lou Eylich and Claire Parkinson, longtime partners of Ryan Murphy. I love he’s loyal to his actors and team behind-the-scenes.
Basically, Eylich and Parkinson made “sure each character has a really strong voice and really bold statements with how they dress.”
Three of Her Best Outfits
Where do I even start? Astrid has countless phenomenal outfits to pick from. A personal fave is her Rachel Comey pink dress paired with ivory booties, along with this fabulous green floral frock from season one.
Also, don’t forget about Astrid’s timeless tennis style. She keeps her colorful style both on and off the courts. From her “tennis” sweater to her colorful sunglasses, she’s always winning to make a statement with her wardrobe.
Last but not least – tweed. She LOVES tweed. She weaves the fabric throughout many scenes of the show from dresses to separates. Best of all, her fashion never feels dated, and she finds a way to modernize the fabulous fabric.
Astrid Sloan Style Reinterpreted
Again, several of Astrid’s most stylish scenes of the show revolves around the tennis court. The show focuses mostly on her backswing on season one, but rest assured Astrid is always ready to ace the game.
Additionally, Astrid embraces COLOR – from greens to pinks, reds to navy, and everything in between. I love she doesn’t shy away from bold hues. My striped dress seems like something that Astrid would rock for any occasion.
Volunteer Opportunities
Overall, my blog post series encourages voter participation and voter registration resources. Today, I’m sharing how you can volunteer with your time. Friends, you don’t need to volunteer a ton of time, nor money, to promote voter registration. In general, it just takes a few hours to make a difference.
First, meet Vote Forward, a non-partisan organization that was recommended to me by a sweet reader, Megan. Vote Forward volunteers send heartfelt handwritten letters to unregistered and low-propensity voters encouraging them to participate in our democracy.
Sending a Vote Forward letter is one of the easiest things you can do to increase turnout. It takes two minutes (and only one stamp) to help. Based on data, writing meaningfully letters is one concrete action you can take, no matter where you live, to get unlikely-to-vote fellow citizens to the polls.
After all, writing personalized letters is right out of Astrid and McAfee’s Politician playbook. Love that. Just buy some stamps, join their efforts, and you’re set.
