One of my favorite quotes is “You can never be overdressed or overeducated.” Often, I hear my friends talk about their struggles with dress codes for events (especially when it’s not outlined on an invitation). We text back and forth, “Should we be more business casual or cocktail party chic. Oh wait – is this a black tie gala?” Sigh.
When in doubt, I always prefer to be overdressed for special occasions (big or small). Sure, there are some exceptions, but I like dressing up because I rarely leave an event feeling too formal – but there are PLENTY of times when I have felt too casual. When winter hits and my schedule fills up with holiday parties, hotel and store openings, and work events, I tend to opt for statement pieces that are memorable and refined.
This sequin pink dress from Nordstrom features all of the qualities that I look for – bold color, sleek silhouette, and a dose of drama. It’s a dress that’s memorable (and unapologetically so). It’s the perfect New Year’s Eve dress! I paired it with the most beautiful, luxe velvet jacket that also works perfectly with jeans and a t-shirt. What are your go-to outfits for the holidays? Do you prefer to be dressed up or dressed down?
Special thanks to Nordstrom for partnering on this post; all opinions expressed are my own. Sponsorships like these help make Style Charade possible. See more details about this colorful wall and all of my favorite Chicago murals, walls, and street art in my Chicago Wall Charades guide HERE!
