January in Washington, D.C. requires a coat. January 20th, 2021, however, called for inauguration coats. Yesterday’s history-making ceremony was both poignant and energizing. Additionally, it was your official reminder to buy a statement coat and put together a monochromatic winter look! From Madam Vice President Harris in a purple topper by Christopher John Rogers to Michelle Obama in Sergio Hudson, jewel-tones were on display. Can we take a moment for First Lady Dr. Biden in her lovely velvet trimmed look by Markarian?!
Statement Inauguration Coats
My favorite inauguration coats of the past include Laura Bush in ivory Oscar de la Renta in 2005 and Michelle Obama in Thom Browne (with a J. Crew belt) in 2013. This year, young fashionistas Ella Emhoff and Amanda Gorman donned Miu Miu and Prada, respectively. Jennifer Lopez went all-out in Chanel, while Bernie’s puffer and crocheted mittens broke the internet. Additionally, I loved President Biden’s granddaughters’ trio of monochromatic outfits!
To celebrate this new chapter for our nation, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite coat looks. In closing, I hope it inspires you to find bold ways to brave the winter weather!
