Are you familiar with the womenswear brand? If not, I highly recommend reading this article about the founder, Liya Kebede. First, lemlem’s founder, Liya Kebede, is brilliant. She’s an Ethiopian supermodel, women’s empowerment advocate, and designer of lemlem.
In 2007, she launched lemlem which highlights Ethiopian craftsmanship. Overall, part of her goal with the brand is to showcase the high-quality craftsmanship in Africa, and especially Ethiopia. Furthermore, lemlem now works with approximately 300 artisans in the destination. Love that!
About the H&M lemlem Collection
As you gear up for summer travel, special occasions, and beyond, I’m confident this womenswear collection is for you! I’ve been eyeing so many of her colorful womenswear pieces in the past. Normally, the lemlem line retails for upwards of $500. The H&M lemlem collection features 28-pieces that retail between $13.99-$49.99. SO good!
Additionally, the collection is exclusive to H&M’s website along with select stores. Each effortless piece is designed out of traditional handwoven materials often found in lemlem’s pieces. In fact, you’ll find cover-ups, sundresses, tops, shorts, pants, swimwear, and beyond. Moreover, the line is designed out of sustainable materials, such as organic linen, recycled polyester and Tencel™ Lyocell. Lastly, I’m obsessed with the color palette in the collection. Think bright blues, crisp whites, bold oranges, soft pinks, and memorable neons.
“I love that H&M has always been at the forefront of doing really cool collaborations. So for lemlem, it’s really exciting to be part of that group of collaborating brands. It’s also a first for us to add jewellery as part of this collection and create a whole lemlem look. My creative direction included the campaign, too, which was so much fun and special because I got to shoot with my daughter”
-Liya Kebede, founder and creative director of lemlem
In Closing: H&M lemlem Collection
Lately, H&M has been on a hot streak of designer collaborations. Seriously. From H&M Home Diane von Furstenberg on 4/17/21 to the H&M x Simone Rocha launch on 3/11/21, the brand has been releasing capsules nearly every 3-4 weeks. My gut says these capsules were originally designed to launch in 2020. Perhaps not all, but definitely some.
Think about it – most brands had to pivot due to the pandemic. Who’s buying tulle and trench coats when most people can’t buy toilet paper? As an H&M for more than a decade, I can sense the brand is releasing a LOT in a short period of time. Above all, clearly their team is working overtime.
Anyway, what pieces are you eyeing from the H&M lemlem collection? It’s been fun to hear about the pieces that you’ve been getting! In closing, checkout the video below for more details on the launch. Happy shopping!
(Not) Casually been refreshing the H&M homepage all morning and discovered this launches in the US and Canada on May 6 🙁 The wait is killing me!
The wait is so difficult!
