Today, I’m sharing my candid review of the Hamilton Princess Hotel Bermuda. This past spring, the Hamilton Princess team reached out to invite us to stay at their property. I’d heard of the iconic hotel for some time, and a long weekend vacation was desperately in order.
After all, we haven’t been able to spend a lot of time together with our busy work schedules. Sun and sand was just what the doctor ordered!
Hamilton Princess Hotel Bermuda Review
Bermuda has always been on our radar, but we never seemed to find the time to visit. Thankfully, a long weekend opened up, and voila! Our August trip was booked! After two quick flights, Bob and I touched down on the colorful island. After stepping off the plane, I knew we made the right decision!
Are you thinking about a trip to the Caribbean or Bermuda? See why the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club is my new go-to island destination!
Also, the Hamilton Princess Hotel Bermuda made me want to pack all of the gorgeous dresses and sunny styles. The white dress above is the perfect piece to stay cool and fresh during your stay. Also, I can’t get enough of this sunny style by Rhode. I shared two looks from the weekend in a blog post, and I highly recommend checking it out if you’re looking for what to pack!
What is Hamilton Princess Bermuda?
Often referred to as the “Grand Dame of Bermuda” and “Pink Palace,”Hamilton Princess officially opened in 1185. Trust me, she doesn’t look a day over 28! Every inch of the property has been renovated, and everything feels (and looks) brand new.
The hotel features 170 stunning guest rooms, suites, and one bedroom rooms. In my humble opinion, the star of the property (beyond the art), is Marcus‘, an open kitchen restaurant featuring a menu by Marcus Samuelsson. Friends, do NOT miss a meal at this place. We loved everything on the menu!
We also enjoyed lunch a few times at 1609 Bar & Restaurant; the sangria and rum punches were divine. The restaurant features views of the harbor, and it’s a perfect place to grab a quick bite to eat before heading to the pool.
Sadly, we didn’t have a chance to checkout the spa, but I heard from several guests that it was magnificent. I highly recommend booking an appointment!
Who Owns Hamilton Princess Bermuda?
The property is independently owned by a local family, and managed by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. From what I understand, the family is incredibly involved in both the property and the community itself. They also like to keep a low profile, so I won’t go into who they are : ) Let’s just say they’re truly invested in the success of the island as much as the hotel itself. Love that!
Hamilton Princess Bermuda Location
Hamilton Princess is located in the heart of Hamilton, right next to the harbor. It only took us a short 20-minute cab ride to the property, and there are plenty of licensed cabs at the airport waiting your pick-up. The key is to look for the word “taxi” on the side of the car.
There are some “gypsy cabs” roaming the streets that aren’t licensed. No matter what country or destination I’m in (U.S. or otherwise), I never take a gypsy cab. Stick with licensed cabs – trust!
Hamilton Princess Hotel Bermuda Room Types
From all that I saw, there is not a bad room in the place! I would recommend trying to get a harbor view, if possible, since the water is so pretty! We stayed in a signature room with balcony, which included a king bed and patio overlooking the grounds and harbor. It was positively beautiful! We absolutely loved the location of our room – it was centrally located to everything.
Above all, the balcony was everything! Bob and I spent multiple nights enjoying a few glasses of wine outside, and it’s the ideal location for breakfast in the morning.
Hamilton Princess Gold Lounge
As part of our stay, we were granted access to the Gold Lounge, which meant we had a separate VIP check-in, and access to the Lounge for complimentary breakfasts, afternoon teas, and also canapés during the early evening. Soft drinks, water and juices are also on the house, and there are alcoholic options available for purchase. I especially loved the outdoor patio at the lounge, which overlooks the water and adults-only pool. The perfect place to pull-up a seat to watch the sunset.
Breakfast is a mix of eggs, pastries, cheese, fruit, coffee, tea, and some other local dishes (think fish and potatoes). Afternoon tea was perfect! I’m a huge fan of high tea, and the Hamilton Princess does an amazing job with theirs.
They have light finger sandwiches, pastries and desserts. The canapés were also fantastic – think crudités, meats and cheeses and a variety of small savory dishes. So good!
Is Hamilton Princess Family-Friendly?
Absolutely! In fact, we saw families of various sizes vacationing on the property. Plus, since Bermuda is Zika free, we also saw a bunch of babymooners. For anyone struggling to find a great location to celebrate their pending bundle of joy, I highly recommend Bermuda! You won’t be disappointed.
The beach club is one of my reasons to stay on property. Hamilton Princess offers hotel guests a complimentary jitney to the beach, which is about 30 minutes away. The best part? The beach is completely private, which makes the entire experience so much better! They have a handful of hammocks in the water to lounge in, as well as beach chairs that cost.
Lastly, there aren’t many bugs! I was shocked that I didn’t get a single mosquito bite during the trip – especially since I was wearing dresses and spending a lot of time outside.
Hamilton Princess Art Collection
The artwork on property is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. From Warhol to Damien Hirst, Takashi Murakamk to Nelson Mandela, the walls are adorned with the most brilliant, colorful and dynamic art. It felt like we were visiting an art museum! Every Saturday at 10:00 AM, the hotel offers complimentary guided tours of the art by tour guide, Stephanie Gibson. I highly recommend it!
Best Activities in Bermuda
One of the top recommendations we received before the trip was to take a cab to St. George’s to see all of the colorful, pastel homes and businesses. It’s about a $50 USD cab (or $100 roundtrip, excluding tips) to get to/from there, so we were a bit wary of going at first. Upon arriving, I knew why so many people love it!
Every corner of the town is Instagrammable. While there, I also learned that St. George’s used to be the capital of Bermuda for nearly two centuries. Now, it’s a bustling town with stores, restaurants and a gorgeous pier with boats everywhere. We ended up visiting on a Sunday, so most of the stores were closed. It also happened to fall on a holiday weekend so the entire place felt like a ghost town (seriously)!
Final Thoughts – Hamilton Princess Bermuda Review
For lunch, we decided to visit a local favorite called Wahoo’s. Every single person who we met on the trip told us about this place. The food was delicious (highly recommended).
If you are looking for an amazing place to stay, I highly recommend Hamilton Princess Bermuda. Our stay was out of this world, and I can’t wait to go back!
