Now that the temps in Chicago have dropped (hello, 45-degree days), it’s time for all the layers. From extra cozy throws at night to chunky fleece scarves during the day, I’m all about warmth and comfort (who isn’t, right?!). When Nordstrom Rack reached out to partner for a seasonal look, I was beyond thrilled – love them! Plus, I knew right away that a relaxed, grey monochromatic outfit would be perfect.
What’s a monochromatic outfit? Well, it’s one that relies on a singular color. Think Michelle Obama’s inauguration look last January (so good!). Often, it includes slight variations in tones of the hue or texture to allow for even more visual interest. Other women known for chic monochromatic outfits include Meghan Markle, Jennifer Lopez, and Blake Lively, to name a few. Plus, according to Vogue, dressing head-to-toe in a singular color will continue to be de rigueur well into next year (and beyond, I predict).
Grey Monochromatic Outfit via Nordstrom Rack
When I combed through new arrivals at Nordstrom Rack, I discovered this classic sweater dress. Best of all, it’s under $25 and also available in black and light beige. When it arrived, I was supremely impressed with the quality, given that it’s so affordable. I *might* have purchased a second one in a new color after trying this one on, lol. For me, I found it to be true to size, and it hits just above my knee (I’m 5’4″ for reference).
I paired it with this incredibly soft double-breasted coat. It has a good weight to it, and I like that it’s not overly structured nor stiff – a perfect grab and go option. My well-loved suede over-the-knee boots added another element of texture (and a slightly warmer tone of grey). Nordstrom Rack has a similar option here and even more boots to choose from here!
In full transparency, I broke the monochromatic rules by incorporating a pop of color with my bag. However, when you find a pink bag this chic, it’s impossible not to go rogue! This quilted leather bucket bag by Louise et Cie absolutely had me at “hello.” I’m obsessed with the marbled geometric handle, and it also has a removeable crossbody strap. Plus, it’s available in a lighter pink (this one is definitely more blush).
