So, it’s a casual July weekend, and we’re out to brunch in Chicago. I’m scrolling through Instagram (naturally), and my eyes land upon a colorful post by @ohhappyday. It turns out that an incredible pop up was in the midst of being created. After checking out the website, I knew we had to book tickets to Color Factory San Francisco. Given that our June trip to the Bay Area was way too short, an August getaway was definitely in order!
After a delayed Friday night flight, we landed at SFO in the wee hours of the next morning. Thankfully, our Saturday tickets to Color Factory San Francisco weren’t until 11:30am. We initially booked that time thinking that we could shoot some other blog posts around the city during the morning. Needless to say, that didn’t happen – lol. We were both completely exhausted, even after two cups of coffee. Thankfully, when our car neared the the pop up (located near Union Square), all of my fatigue disappeared. From the second you see the colorful striped exterior, your mood lifts immediately! After finding a parking spot across the street (score!), we headed in and spent the next hour exploring. Color Factory is essentially a series of rooms spread over two floors. Each one is dedicated to a color (or color combination) as well as an associated experience.

Things to Know Before You Go to Color Factory San Francisco:
Parking
Since we were traveling to San Francisco from out of town, we had a rental car for the weekend. Given its location, Color Factory does not have any parking for its guests. There is ample street parking in the area, but be sure to read every sign and instruction closely. Also, play it safe and avoid any yellow or red painted curbs.
Ticket Logistics
There’s no need to print your tickets in advance, since they send an email with a link to your QR code. One thing to note is that you will need your ID and the main person who purchased the tickets must be present in order to gain access to Color Factory.
What to Wear
As you can see from my post, the dress code is formal. You must wear a dress and high heels. I’M KIDDING! It’s a very casual crowd – almost everyone was in jeans and sneakers. When you get to the yellow room with the giant ball pit, you will need to take of your shoes and empty your pockets before partaking in that experience.
How Long Does it Take?
Each ticket purchase allots you one hour in Color Factory San Francisco. Given the amount of daily visitors, the team inside definitely helps move things along. In my experience, an hour was more than enough time to explore and take some fun photos.
Some of my favorite experiences were the colorful ribbons, the yellow ball pool, and the confetti room. Bob’s favorite part was the free ice cream cone at the end – no surprise there.
Color Factory San Francisco is the brainchild of Jordan Ferney, the founder of Oh Happy Day. She pulled together the most incredible roster of creatives, artists, and designers, to create 12,000 square feet of fun. Best of all, there is something for all age groups.
