AH! Today, I’m beyond excited to unveil our living room redesign in partnership with Ballard Designs. This collaboration has been an absolute dream come true. I’ve been familiar with Ballard for more than 15 years, and their pieces were the perfect fit for our living room.
This space has been in the works since the end of last year, and I am completely in awe of the final outcome. Be sure to checkout my previous blog post about the design process and how we got to this point. You can also learn more about Ballard as a company and why they were an instant choice for a partnership.
Each and every piece in the space feels perfectly aligned with the vision I had for our home, and I am beyond thankful to Ballard Designs, their Design Solution team, and our interior designer – Amelia – for all of the hard work and effort that went into the room.
Starting the Design Process
The main floor of our home has a very open floor plan with each room flowing into the next. When dreaming up the design for the living and dining rooms, I wanted to keep them cohesive with the nearby kitchen and family room. Sure, I want each area to have its own aesthetic, but the first floor definitely needs to work well as one.
Growing up, my mom designed a gorgeous formal space to entertain in our home. Funny enough, the wallpaper was pink and white stripes (no surprise there!). We ended up using striped wallpaper in our family room, so I wanted to find a new direction for our living and dining room spaces.
Once again, we tapped our interior designer and friend, Amelia Canham Eaton, to help us map out several concepts. Our first step was choosing the wallpaper. After reviewing dozens upon dozens of options, we narrowed it down to a classic hummingbird print.
Knowing Ballard’s ability to personalize upholstered pieces with a customer’s own fabric, we ordered several yards of hummingbird fabric to match the wallpaper. This allowed Ballard to create completely customized items for the room. At first, we only thought about personalizing the dining room chairs, but soon it turned into more than that, lol! “More is more,” as Amelia exclaimed!
Key Pieces
Ballard has SO many phenomenal furniture and accessory options. It’s one of the reasons why their Design Solutions team is so helpful with the process. They really listen to your needs, ideas, and help narrow your focus to items that will be stylish and solutions-oriented.
Plus, Ballard has more than 400 fabrics that may be personalized on 550+ frames. It really gives you the chance to put your stamp on the styles in your room. As someone who has a clear vision of what I want our home to look like, Ballard was the ideal brand to personalize our space.
Here are some of the key pieces that we selected:
Hartwell Sofa
This Hartwell style is such a classic. Best of all it’s available in so many styles: from sofas to sectionals, a chaise, bench, and more! I truly can’t say enough great things about the timeless silhouette, the comfortable cushions, and the array of fabrics from which to choose. We went with the “Apartment” size, and it’s the perfect proportion for the room. Additionally we chose a lighter wood tone to blend with the rug and compliment our striped fabric.
Robbie Chair
These chairs have a stunning shape and I love how they’re a bit oversized but not too large, if that makes sense. We chose a beautiful pink velvet fabric, and the final result feels super luxe and regal. Definitely two of the biggest statement pieces in the room, and best of all they’re SO comfy!
Decorative Pillows in Imperial Trellis
Amelia and I chose to style the Robbie Chairs with these plush accent pillows. The green “Imperial Trellis” fabric was a no-brainer, and I was so happy we had a chance to personalize the pillows with this fabulous design.
Hayes Ottoman
Gah! I’ve always wanted a circular ottoman in my home, and the Hayes is the perfect haute option to center the room. Beyond being functional, this piece grounds the space in so many ways. We chose to provide our own fabric for this piece so it matched the wallpaper. Originally, we considered the Imperial Trellis fabric, but Amelia ended up persuading us to stick with the hummingbird fabric. I’m so glad she did!
Dori Sisel Rug
This rug was love at first site! It looks 100x more expensive than some of the best designer rugs we’ve seen, and the texture is just what the room needed. The sheen is beautiful, and we haven’t had any issues with shedding whatsoever. I’m such a fan!
Beaudry Mirror
Every blogger loves a good mirror (lol!), but this version is the perfect size and shape to make a room feel elevated. The deep brass compliments the tones of the room, and the size is perfect over our vintage mantel. It’s also available in a larger height (64″), which could be ideal as a statement leaning mirror.
Honeycomb Vase with Cherry Blossom Stems
I saw these cherry blossom stems at Ballard Oakbrook’s store location, and I knew I needed to have them. They add such a fresh element to the room. Beyond bringing additional height and texture to the space, they offer an element of the outdoors inside.
Suzanne Kasler Gourd Lamp with Rattan Shade
When we choose the acrylic console table, we knew we wanted to accessorize it perfectly. Jean from Ballard’s Design Solutions team recommended these blush gourd lamps with rattan shades – obsessed!
Design Partnerships
I’m absolutely obsessed with Ballard’s relationships with incredible designers, including Suzanne Kasler, Bunny Williams, and Miles Redd. These design partnerships
Thank you to the team at Ballard Designs for partnering with us on this project! We are delighted with how everything turned out, and we can’t wait to use this space for many years to come. Be sure to checkout their blog, How to Decorate, for even more design inspiration!
